A Farewell from outgoing Executive Director Karen Scheler

This May, ABC House is celebrating 15 years of service to children and families of Linn and Benton Counties who are dealing with child abuse issues. I have had the distinct pleasure of serving as the Executive Director of ABC House for almost 9 of those years. During that time the agency has added a counseling and community education program, a part time forensic interviewer, another medical provider and has implemented a strong development program to help support the services it provides. In 1997, ABC House provided services to 57 children and in 2011, 608 children received assessment services, children and families received counseling services and 2090 students and community members received education and prevention information. During the last 9 years, ABC House took ownership and responsibility for its building and we have increased recognition of its mission in the community. These accomplishments are all due to the incredible staff, the supportive members of the Board of Directors and all the individuals, businesses, corporations and foundations who have joined efforts to support ABC House.
I have been able to see first -hand how hard each member of the county Child Abuse Intervention teams work to make sure children are protected and receive the services needed. These are not easy jobs but there is a dedication which makes me proud to be part of these teams.
It is with great sadness and excitement that I share with each of you, for personal reasons I am stepping down as the Executive Director. It has been such an honor to be part of ABC House and has given me far more than I could ever express.
I would like each of you to welcome the new Executive Director, Jennifer Gilmore Robinson. I am sure she will be helping ABC House to move to the next level of service to children and families and the communities it serves. I would ask each of you to welcome Jennifer and extend to her the great support and experience you have shared with me.
I am sure I will be seeing you in the future and I wish each of you all the best.
